Do you have a big test coming up, or are you trying to reach a lofty goal? You’re in the right place! I want to share my best study tips with you today. These are study tips I share with my math students and wellness clients.
Instead of focusing on the one thing you’re trying to achieve, I help you create routines and habits that will last. You can apply these study tips to other goals or deadlines you have, too! I created these study tips for ADHD adults to help people learn how to work towards their goals.
Write down everything on your to-do list so you know it’s there. You don’t have to keep everything in your brain! We all have a lot to do and think about, so writing down some things will clear up space in your mind.
I’ve found this to be so valuable! It helps me not procrastinate and reminds me to pace myself to meet this deadline. This is one of the best study tips for math students!
Find a space to do your work! This could be in a home office, library, coffee shop… Wherever you can sit down and focus on your work. Having the same place to go to every time you study puts you in the mindset that it’s time to work.
No all-nighters! They don’t work. Trust me. Treat working toward your goals as a 9-5. You have dedicated time to work on it each day but you also have time to do other things, like sleep! Your sleep allows you to process the information you studied. Shoot for 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
If you’re invited to an event that doesn’t align with your goals, don’t go. College parties are fun and an experience kids should have but don’t let that interfere with your studies. Don’t go to a party if you have a test the next morning. The same goes for my wellness clients. If they’re trying to lose weight, I don’t recommend they go to restaurants that don’t have healthy options. Know your limits and get comfortable saying no.
If you don’t understand the topic or why you aren’t getting something, ask for help! Go to office hours or hire a coach or tutor to help you reach your goals.
Surround yourself with people who support you and will keep you accountable. You can’t do this alone and it’s more fun to have people there for you!
Take breaks in between studying. I highly recommend the Pomodoro Method, which means you study for 20 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. You can extend this, too, if 20 minutes is too short of a study session. Try studying for 50 minutes and then taking a 10-minute break. Play with this method and see what works best for you.
Studying is stressful, and you need to release it! Moving your body is great because it gives your brain a chance to focus on other things.
Sometimes we forget to eat or choose unhealthy foods to get us through the day. Instead, focus on adding these things to your diet:
I hope these study tips help you reach your goals! Take it one day at a time. Setting goals and working to achieve them isn’t easy, but if you have the right mindset and routine, you can achieve anything!
