Home habits are things that help you stay grounded. They can vary from person to person, home to home, but having a routine in place is a game-changer. I learned the home habits I’m sharing today from influencers, family, and friends. They have helped me manage my ADHD, feel more balanced, and be more productive.
You might call me Type-A, but I own it! I know these things can seem high-maintenance or over-the-top, but they help me stay on track with my routines. Your home habits might look different from mine, but I hope these inspire you to create some of your own routines.
As I mentioned, I learned these habits from influencers and important people in my life. I then adjusted their advice to fit my lifestyle. Here are some tips to help you create personal home habits!
I can’t stand clutter, which is why I created my decluttering guide. I want to help other moms manage the clutter homes can so quickly accumulate. These are the home habits I live by to have a healthy home.
The first thing is I never enter someone’s house with outdoor shoes on, and I ask for the same in return. Do you know how many germs are on your shoes? MILLIONS. It’s so gross, and I can’t stand having dirt, dust, and bacteria tracked around my home. Although some people don’t mind, I show the same respect in their homes.
I even color-code my shoes to indicate if they are indoor or outdoor shoes! I know that’s next-level, but it helps me maintain my shoe rule. I also wash my shoes weekly to sanitize them. It’s one of my house rules to keep the house clean.
I have to vacuum my house either every day or every other day. It keeps the clutter in check because we all know how fast clutter can add up on the floors! I also mop once a week to see how dirty the floor is. You can view all my favorite cleaning supplies on my Amazon storefront.
I also pay to have my house cleaned once a month. I understand this isn’t feasible for everyone, and this is a luxury I pay for. I also do a deep cleaning of my house every 4-6 months. I make a checklist for my cleaning company so there isn’t any miscommunication about what needs to be done. I love them, and their work saves me time during the week.
Before I go to bed, all the dishes have to be cleaned. I don’t like waking up to a sink full of dirty dishes. I feel that it throws off my entire day when I have to start by cleaning dishes from the day before, or I end up piling them up even more. I also need the kitchen to be cleaned and the floors vacuumed. I don’t like stepping on crumbs, so I need this routine. My husband is on board with it, too, so it works for us!
I know these cleaning habits seem over the top. As a single person, I didn’t really care what products I used or if my house was a mess. But since getting married and having kids, I’ve realized how many germs and bacteria we’re exposed to every day. I try to make my home a safe haven from these germs.
I also believe a tidy home equals a tidy mind. My ADHD gets out of control when my house is a mess. I learned that over the years. I know what things will set me off, like the dishes, and do things to avoid feeling like that. If you live with someone with ADHD, figure out what sets them off and work to avoid it.
Anyway, I hope this episode gave you some insight into how I manage my ADHD and the home habits I live by. Find a routine that works for your family and home!
